Lendal Bridge York Sunset

Lendal Bridge | Sunset In York
Lendal Bridge and the river Ouse.
Up to 1861 the river was crossed via a rope ferry where Lendal bridge now stands and was once used by Florence Nightingale on a visit to Castle Howard in 1852. Thomas Page was the engineer that designed the bridge who also designed London's Westminster bridge.
It was the second attempt at building this bridge as the first in 1860 by William Dredge ended in disaster and it collapsed and killed five workmen. Parts of the construction were then removed and used in the construction of Valley bridge in Scarborough.
That's a little history of Lendal bridge and how and when it came to be. The picture I made one stunning sunset was, well I just liked it. It was a stunning sunset and people were gathering on the bridge as they often do at this time of year and take photos down the river Ouse. I Guess I was doing the same here but using the bridge lamps which had only just lit up adds the, "I know where that is" mark to it. After all the lamps are a work of art and deserve to be in the picture. Hope you agree.
